Most games before Halo (particularly PC-based FPS games) would have just had it so all of your allies die, and then you (the Master Chief) would have to fight both the Covenant and Flood (who have teamed up for some reason) Halo is special because it was the first series to truly introduced mult-factioned encounters (which further increases to four-way encounters once the sentinels break away from their allegiance with the UNSC). 1: make sure this addon is updated and 2: check that equip zombie weapon and flood carrier script is disabled in mutator settings as these are script heavy and can crash older or less powerful computers. What becomes even more interesting is that they are complete wildcards: they attack everyone and sow chaos between the UNSC vs Covenant battles, which is what makes them tremendous fun to fight. The Flood are introduced at the perfect time because they literally FLOOD (LOL) into Covenant ranks and it becomes clear that the Covenant are simply not equipped to handle them.

The issue is that the Covenant can become very predictable due to their disciplined, often defensive and tactical approach. What makes Halo so intense isn't just because the UNSC struggle with the Flood, it's because this massive, oppressive, highly drilled alien covenant of forces cannot handle them either, which really makes the true gravity of the combat scenarios hit home.

The Covenant, while fun to fight, are always on a trajectory on which they will become very predictable due to their disciplined, often defensive and tactical approach.
